Get to know various blues themes
Improvisation: Impro on rock blues in “rock key” (e.g.: “I’ll Be Here”)

Saxer: get to know various blues saxers (Albie Donnelly/ King Curtis/ Big Jay, etc)
Solo transcription: listening to licks of different blues sax players, learning in 12 keys
Sound: breathing
Technique: major scales, minor scales, mixolydian, chords
Repertoire: know approx. 5 blues themes by heart (“Tenor, Madness”, “Blue Monk” etc…); portfolio for accompanists
Teaching concepts: get to know and evaluate sax schools

Soul, Funk, R&B
Content: note reading of funky phrases (16th notes) ; e.g. “Tower Of Power”.
Improvisation: impro on funky stuff (modals, simple chords; ex: “Brown Machine”,
“Watermelon Man”, Comin Home”)
Sax players: Junior Walker, Maceo Parker
Solo transcription: “Lily Was Here” (Candy Dulfer); playing, analysis, sound, licks
Sound: embouchure, intonation, dynamics (learn different embouchure concepts)

Solo transcription: various jazz titles, e.g. “Take Five”; playing, analysis, sound, licks

Improvisation: Jazz (e.g.: Aebersold: Sonny Rollins/John Coltrane)
Solo transcription: John Coltrane (“Oleo”) or Sonny Rollins
Sound: suggestions; 3 phases of baroque trills
Technique: practical use of the patterns in the solo
Repertoire: routinize and expand previously learned songs
Secondary instrument: important musical passages for flute and clarinet; problem of the
instrument doubling
Teaching concepts: develop rough teaching concept for the first 4 years
Business: demo – CD, press articles

Freestyle/Jazz/Vorbereitung auf den Abschluß
Content: students’ own creative projects
Repertoire: be able to play 50 songs from memory, corresponding sheet music for
accompanying musicians
Business: Create complete application portfolio (cover letter, resume, infos,
photos, press articles, etc…

Module duration: 6 months each

All modules are freely selectable and can be attended by you online or in presence.

 

 Pre-College

You enroll in one of the modules and attend classes at RPJAM for only 6 months. You are free to choose the modules you want to attend. Here you can limit yourself to one module or attend as many modules (also of the other departments) as you like.

 

Main studies

For the main course of studies you must have taken all 6 modules by the time you graduate. The order is variable, depending on when you start in September or March.
